ABSTRACT

Objective:

To investigate the effect of modified ultrafiltration (MUF) applied after cardiopulmonary bypass on clinical parameters in pediatric cardiac surgery in patients weighing less than 10 kg.

Materials and Methods:

Seventy patients weighing less than 10 kg, who underwent atrial septal defect and ventricular septal defect (VSD) procedures in the Pediatric CVS Clinic of Hospital, were divided into two comparative groups, with and without MUF, and their clinical parameters were retrospectively examined during the intraoperative and postoperative periods. For this purpose, the effect of MUF on inotrope score, balance in CPB, 24-hour urine amount, 24-hour drainage amount, intraoperative blood use after CPB, blood gas parameters, hemodynamic parameters, biochemical and infection parameters were compared.

Results:

Statistical differences were observed in CPB balance, the amount of erythrocytes used after CPB, pH, pO2, glucose, lactate, HCO3, pulse, mean arterial pressure, NIRS, hemoglobin, hematocrit, creatine, ALT, aPTT and INR values in patients who underwent MUF. A significant difference was detected.

Conclusion:

We think that MUF may positively affect clinical parameters in pediatric patients undergoing CPB and contribute to better results in the post-operative period. According to the results obtained in our study, we recommend the application of MUF after CPB in ASD and VSD procedures in pediatric cardiac surgery clinics.
